Youth Orchestra

This group offers an exceptional opportunity for young musicians to develop their ensemble skills in a supportive environment.

Students must be at least 10 years old with a suggested 2 years of private instruction. The group consists of string instruments (violin, viola, cello, double bass).

Note:

Musicians must join the Grande Prairie Music Society at a cost of $10/year to join the Youth Orchestra. 

There is a participant contribution of $125/session required for all ensemble members. Payment can be made by e-transfer to admin@gpmusicsociety.com, by cash, or by cheque made out to Grande Prairie Music Society. 

About the Conductor

Krista McLauchlan

Krista McLauchlan (B.Mus, B.Ed, CERTESL) studied cello with Tanya Prochazka at the University for Alberta. Upon completion of her studies, she has taught string classes and conducted orchestras since 2001. She has participated in many conducting workshops and seminars including the University of Toronto wind band conducting symposium and the conducting workshops of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra under the tutelage of Cosette Justo Valdes. Her passion, other than her family, is bringing the joy of orchestral music making to young musicians.
